Triple Split, what’s the world come to?
Last month in Geneva, A. Lange & Söhne revealed their new horological feat: The Triple Split. Here’s my short review of the triple split. I’ve not seen one in person, nor will I, probably ever. But hey, one can dream. THE TRIPLE SPLIT. THE TRIPLE SPLIT. THE TRIPLE SPLIT. In the press release for this watch, they sell how it’s the only watch that could individually time the events in a German triathlete’s record breaking performance from 2016. Great. I won’t ever do that. However, I want to time the cooking performance of a few pots on my stove simulteously. Which, until now I’ve used a Rolex Paul Newman Daytona…

Greubel Forsey GMT at SIHH 2018
GB GMT – OH HELL I want one! Greubel Forsey brought the heat to SIHH 2018 with their GMT watch. Man o’man I want to try this on. GB is one of those brands that I just want to try one on… once. Just check out the plaque on the side! The 360 view of the globe is insane. Beautiful design. Beautiful movement finishing. The crystals on this watch are a miracle of fabrication. Those location/date wheels on the back reek of quality. Their documentation states there are 453 parts. (453 that’s not a typo). I didn’t even really read the documentation before deciding how awesome this watch is. I…

I’m not typically a huge Piaget guy but this watch is amazing. Simply Amazing. I want this watch. I’d wear this watch. When they have a press copy, I am going to request it for a full review. Here are a bunch of other watch press instagram shots of it. I DO love it. Watch this video below from Piaget’s Instagram feed. How far can you go. The #AltiplanoUltimate Concept watch is 2mm only. The thinnest watch ever. Unveiled tomorrow at #SIHH2018. #PiagetAltiplano…

Vacheron Constantin’s Métiers d’Art Les Aérostiers Collection aka hot air balloons
VACHERON FOR THE WIN Vacheron Constantin makes great watches. Maybe the greatest. I love their product and would gladly own almost anything they make. This year’s SIHH revealed some craziness from the super high-end brand. The new FIFTYSIX line watches is great but these other guys…. the hot air balloons (to cheapen it a bit.) Here’s a clip of some of the super-high resolution stills edited together in 4K resolution. Please watch full-screen! Métiers d’Art Les Aérostiers Collection A combination of artistic crafts and horological techniques Engraving, pounced ornament and plique-à-jour enamel Manufacture Calibre 2460 G4/1 Original display on dragging or jumping discs Five flights… and as many stories engraved…

IWC brings Tribute to Pallweber to SIHH 2018
Not So New They previewed this watch online about a month ago. The watch world went nuts. Not over the watch but the printing quality and the finish of the enamel dial. Yes, I noticed it, too, but quickly moved on as it was more a “proof of what’s coming” concept. The Tribute to Pallweber A tribute to F.A. Jones – the American watchmaker who founded IWC – the windows of the digital display are labelled as “Hours” and “Minutes” One watch, three finishes. REF 5050 The enamal dials a simply put- beautiful. The take multiple trips through the furnace and there is a high failure rate. The ones…

H. Moser & Cie.’s Swiss Icons Watch Controversy
Some people just can’t take a joke. Yesterday H. Moser posted this year’s installment of their novelty watch they create for SIHH now yearly. It references (no pun intended) a few other major watch companies’ trademark features: Rolex Pepsi bezel colors Patek Philippe garage door dial + logo Girard Perregaux tourbillion bridge Voutilainen hands Audemars Piguet bezel shape Hublot Case Panerai type and crown guard Today Moser posts this on their Instagram: In case you were wondering what happened to the Swiss Icons Watch… A post shared by H. Mahershala Ali wore a huge IWC on Complex’s Sneaker Shopping
Mahershala Ali, actor, Academy Award winner and sneaker fan appeared on Complex‘s YouTube series Sneaker Shopping last month rocking an IWC Big Pilot ‘Le Petite Prince” reference. With an automatic movement, this thing is no joke coming in at 46.2 mm. No so petite…. Just look at the hands! Incredible. Would I wear this thing? I don’t think so, it’s really big. I’d try it on before outright turning it down. It’s got their nice blue dial that appears on a few of their references. It’s features a seven day power reserve…that’s 168 hours! Retailing for $12,900, it’s a decent value proposition for a big IWC automatic watch with an…

Mark Wahlberg and watches
Mark Wahlberg has every Rolex watch you could ever want. He wears them, too. Daytona, Sky-Dweller, Day-Date you name it. The star of Boogie Nights and Three Kings has an affinity for the brand and watches in general. While wasting time online, as one does, I came across this video featuring Mark Wahlberg decoding bits of Boston slang for Vanity Fair. Having previously lived in Boston, I was intrigued. What’s that? One of the crazy Rolex Daytonas with the perfectly selected rainbow colored sapphires on the bezel. A search on Chrono24 shows pricing at around $180K for this gold reference. Other references in steel and white gold are priced…

Usain Bolt rocks a Big Bang Sapphire on Complex’s Sneaker Shopping
Fast runner and all around cool-guy Usain Bolt was the guest on the November 13th episode of Complex’s web series Sneaker Shopping. I’m not a big fan of Sapphire cases, but this one looks great. It’s Hublot’s Big Bang Sapphire, Usain Bolt model. The gold pushers, skeletonized dial, even the green minutes track all work very well together. Those gold pushers in a sapphire case, wow! Check out the episode below, he’s a good guy who really gives back to the community. Run to your AD and buy one now! Here’s the episode Hublot has this promo about the watch on their youtube channel:
